What do Volunteers do?
The primary goal of our volunteer program is to enhance the patient experience. There are several ways volunteers assist us in reaching this goal.
Information and Wayfinding – Patients and visitors appreciate the support of our volunteers at various entrances. These volunteers assist with:
Examples include: Patient and Resources Navigators (PRN) and Escort volunteers.
Direct In-Patient Support – Volunteers work directly with patients on various units to provide support and assistance including:
Examples include: Medical, Cardiology, Complex Care, Rehabilitation and Stroke in-patient units.
Direct Out-Patient Support – Volunteers work directly with patients in various programs or clinics to provide support and assistance including:
Examples include: Emergency, Urgent Care, Surgical Services, Orthopaedic Clinic and Ambulatory Care.
Retail and Fundraising – Volunteers support the day-to-day operations of a variety of retail and fundraising initiatives. Funds raised through these programs and services are donated to the BCHS Foundation in support of patient equipment and care.
Examples include: Retail - Gift Shop, Nevada Ticket Sales and Lottery Kiosk, and Special Events
Administrative Support – From time to time we have a limited number of behind-the-scenes, administrative roles for volunteers. Most of these roles have little or no patient or family interaction.
Examples include: Human Resources, Staff Scheduling, and Health Records
