Celebrating National Physicians' Day at BCHS | Dr. Lucie Gregoire
In recognition & celebration of National Physicians' Day on May 1st, we would like to introduce you to Dr. Lucie Gregoire.
Dr. Gregoire joined the Brant Community Healthcare System on July 1, 1983 as an Emergency Physician at Brantford General Hospital. In 2006, she would transition from the emergency department to the role of a Hospitalist, and most recently into her current position as a Stroke Hospitalist in 2022.
We sat down with Dr. Gregoire to learn what being a physician means to her.
What aspects of practicing at BCHS are you most proud of?
The Brant Community Healthcare System gave me the opportunity to transition from the immediacy of emergency medicine, where all my skills are practiced in the moment, to the more holistic and long term medicine of hospitalists. Navigating the multiple stakeholders involved in the care of in-patients is a difficult challenge. Nurses and colleagues helped me to develop the new skill set necessary to succeed.
What does being a physician mean to you?
Being a physician provides me with the opportunity to improve the well being of the many patients I come across and thereby make a difference in their lives.
What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
The thrill of solving the puzzle of a complex patient presentation to arrive at an accurate diagnosis is really big for me. How can you not enjoy playing Where's Waldo?
What would you like to say to your fellow physicians and staff at BCHS?
In the early years, we worked alone in the emergency room. I benefited from the sound suggestions from experienced nursing staff. Today, we have many technological tools available to us but I still engage in open discussion with colleagues and nurses to help me provide the best patient care possible.
Thank you to Dr. Gregoire and all of our BCHS physicians for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the patients and families we serve. We couldn't do what we do without you!
