Dr. Gene Jarrell has worked in the Brantford General Hospital emergency department (ED) for 37 years.
Over the years, he has been a part of numerous changes in emergency medicine and witnessed the increase of patient flow, access to overnight services, faster diagnoses of heart attacks, conscious sedation, bedside ultrasounds and more.
Jarrell served as medical director of the emergency department for 17 years and worked in the department during SARS, H1N1 and now COVID-19. In addition, he recently completed a four-year term as vice-president of medical affairs and chief of staff at BGH, while continuing to work in the emergency department.
“I have enjoyed my career and I would do it again,” he said.
These days, Jarrell works solely in the emergency department.
