In short, belonging makes DEI initiatives more meaningful by ensuring inclusion isn’t just a checkbox—it’s a lived experience. By emphasizing Belonging alongside Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we are fostering an environment where everyone not only feels included but genuinely valued. Belonging builds trust, connection, and security among our staff and the community we serve, transforming diversity and inclusion into a culture where everyone feels fully seen, heard, and respected.
Concept Behind the Design
The colourful puzzle pieces symbolize the diverse and unique identities each person brings to our organization. While no two pieces are the same, when they come together, they create a strong, unified whole—demonstrating that our collective efforts and vision arise from the richness of our differences.
This concept speaks to a wide range of experiences and perspectives. Our slogan, “I Belong at BCHS and Beyond,” highlights the importance of fostering spaces where individuals can thrive—not just within our organization, but in all areas of their lives. True success comes from recognizing that identity is multifaceted. As an organization, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels they belong. The “beyond” in our slogan reminds us that, as a healthcare system, we are deeply connected to broader social and political forces.
Our tagline, “Creating an Inclusive Culture, Piece by Piece,” reflects the puzzle design and reinforces our ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI-B). Building these connections takes sustained effort, and this is just one step in our larger strategic plan to cultivate an inclusive, innovative community where everyone feels valued, empowered, and ready to contribute to a stronger future.

As part of the “I Belong” campaign, BCHS employees, staff, and volunteers are given the opportunity to share their personal stories, strengthening a culture of belonging that empowers each individual and deepens our collective mission to provide exceptional care.
