Advisory group gives voice to BCHS patients, families
Two years ago, Jodi Rock submitted a short video to the members of the BCHS Board to raise awareness of the care that her loved ones experienced through the lens of a family.
“Our mother’s care demonstrated how Indigenous patients can be impacted by bias, stereotypes, and prejudice,” says Jodi.
That video served as the impetus for change.
Equity is one of the key goals of the BCHS Strategic Plan and it is important that culturally safe care is provided to Indigenous patients when they come for care at the Brantford General Hospital and The Willett Hospital in Paris.
“Our goal is to listen and learn about the experience our patients and their families have when they are in our care. When our caregivers hear from patients and families, we have a better understanding of our actions" says David McNeil, BCHS President & CEO.
Jodi continues to volunteer on the BCHS CEO Patient Family Advisory Committee and is pleased with the changes she has seen.
